Success Stories

Here are few of our success stories that we have helped our clients achieve developing custom applications and providing the support they need to be achieve a successful software deployment:

Client: Escambia County School Board - Title One Office
Project: NCLB (No Child Left Behind) Tutor Management System
Contact: Ed Seitz
October 2007 - Present

Title One Focus
We were introduced to Mr. Seitz in the Fall 2007 when the NCLB program was trying to get their existing system setup for the current school year. That system was developed using .Net technology, was extremely slow, and did not provide all the functionality that was required. Although we managed to get through the year, the system was a maintenance nightmare. We proposed to Mr. Seitz that it was in the best interest for the School Board to develop a new system from scratch. The new system contract was awarded to HTSOP to be completed during the school system's Summer Break. Although we chose to use their existing Windows server, we took advantage of several open source software packages to reduce cost on the project. The packages we chose to use were Apache for the web server, MySQL for the database backend, and PHP for the programming language. We also chose to build the system on the Zend Framework, the Yahoo! User Interface (YUI), and Jasper Reports in order to take advantage of the capabilities of these tools instead of re-creating their functionality from scratch. Using our development process, Mr. Seitz was involved in all stages of the software engineering process including design, development, deployment and now maintenance. We delivered the new system early to allow the tutor vendors time to become accustomed to the new system, which was met with rave reviews. HTSOP continues to maintain the system as state and federal reporting requirements change. As part of our contract, we have retained the rights to the software and will be marketing to other school boards throughout the Southeast.

Client: Guernsey & Associates, Inc.
Project: Contact Management System & On-Site Support
Contact: Ed Guernsey
March 1997 - Present

When we met Ed Guernsey in 1997, he had a small office of less than 10 people and a Netware 3.11 server. Once the software they were using stopped supporting Netware, we re-used their hardware and moved their entire operation onto RedHat Linux. This server provided file sharing, email, and website functionality - considerably more functionality than their previous Netware software. We also developed their contact management system that provided client data, appointment scheduling, tickler notices, and other office automation procedures. After 5 years of successful operation, we assisted in migrating all of their client data from CMS into Act!, and implemented the infrastructure to support Act! (Windows 2003 Small Business Server/Managed Symantec Anti-Virus). Guernsey & Associates is now a 25+ person office spread over three counties, and we continue to maintain their new Windows Server implementation, the legacy Linux server, and remote backup. Over the last 12 years, HI-Tech has had a significant role in their success, and we continue to do so.
